Preila is a settlement in Neringa, 6 km to the North of Nida, on the coast of the Curonian lagoon. Nida is separated from Preila by the Cape Bulvikas and hills: Preila, Karvainiai, Vecekrug. There is only one street in the settlement, it goes along the lagoon, the sea is about 2 km away, there is a berth for boats, a bicycle path connecting Nida-Preila-Pervalka-Juodkrante.

It is believed that the town's name is connected with a Latvian city Preiliais, it is also possible that this name comes from a proper name - the surname Preilis. One may state that Preila is an example of a harmonic coexistance of man and nature. This is a unique relation of man and a sandy peninsula. The line between nature and human domain is very fine.
